Dr. Kim Lau, DO

Dr. Kimbley Lau DO, board certified psychiatrist and owner of Desert Blossom Psychiatry. Accepting new patients in CA and NV

Hi there, it's so nice to meet you!

I am a board certified psychiatrist born and raised in Los Angeles, California. I originally moved to Las Vegas to pursue my dream of being a doctor, and eventually ended up staying for the friendly people, great food, and diverse community. Before I decided I wanted to be a doctor, I tried a few different things first: from daydreaming about being a comic book artist, to a career in biotechnology and research, to opening my own Etsy shop. In trying to figure out my own way, I met people from all sorts of backgrounds and experiences and took these interactions with me as I continued to grow into my own person. Ultimately, I felt that medicine was the best way to combine my interests in biological sciences with my desire to help people and learn about their stories. My medical training helps me integrate evidence-based psychopharmacology with the healing abilities of psychotherapy in order to bring out the best in my patients.

While I see people of all genders and walks in life, women’s health is a niche passion of mine I started cultivating in residency. Women’s lives are marked with milestone after milestone that have the power to change entire identities and one’s purpose in life. The common thread throughout these milestones is the enduring need to adapt, accept, and then reinvent oneself. My interest in this field was a natural progression starting from when I began to learn in depth about the intricacies of the mind-body connection, and the impact that societal expectations and social conditioning have on mental health, to when I began to experience some of these milestones myself. It’s exciting to be a part of this quickly developing field to see what differences we can make towards providing more thoughtful care.

I’ve always enjoyed getting to know people not just for what they do, but for what makes them the person they are today: you are more than just your job, what you look like, what you know, or what you can contribute to society. Your experiences provide the foundation for how you see the world. Developing a deeper understanding of that foundation helps people to be at peace with themselves. I find that the most rewarding part of my job is when I’m able to have the privilege to be a part of this personal journey as a supporter and a guide.

I believe that people are capable of creating something beautiful in the face of hardship and pain, like how cacti are able to grow flowers in the harsh and unforgiving desert environment. If you feel like we’d be able to work together well, or would like to invite me on your personal journey to wellness I’d be honored to help.

Schedule an appointment, and see what we can accomplish together.
