Dr. Kim Lau, DO

Hi there, it's so nice to meet you!

I am a board certified psychiatrist, but getting here was quite the journey.

Before I decided I wanted to be a doctor, I tried a few different things from daydreaming about being a comic book artist, to a career in biotechnology and research, to opening my own Etsy shop, and finally deciding on studying medicine. In trying to figure out my own way, I met people from all sorts of backgrounds and experiences and took these interactions with me as I continued to grow into my own person.

While I see all sorts of people in my practice, women’s health is a niche interest of mine I started cultivating in training. With each milestone in life comes the enduring need to adapt, accept, and then reinvent oneself. In working with people and from my own experiences, I've learned that sometimes this is difficult! Life doesn't come with instructions. As I began to experience some of these milestones myself, I began to integrate my medical training with my life experiences to build my private practice. My goal for my patients is to combine evidence-based psychopharmacology with the healing abilities of psychotherapy in order to heal and bring peace to their lives. 

I’ve always enjoyed getting to know people not just for what they do, but for what makes them the person they are today: you are more than just your job, what you look like, what you know (or who you know), or what you can contribute to society. Your experiences provide the foundation for how you see the world. Developing a deeper understanding of that foundation helps people to be at peace with themselves. I find that the most rewarding part of my job is when I’m able to have the privilege to be a part of this personal journey as a supporter and a guide.
 

I believe that people are capable of creating something beautiful in the face of hardship and pain, like how cacti are able to grow flowers in the harsh and unforgiving desert environment.
